UPDATE: Fire Destroys Abandoned House On Texas Highway 64 East

A fire in the 10000 block of Texas Highway 64 East destroyed an abandoned house and filled the skies with smoke Monday evening.
Authorities said it did not appear anyone was inside the home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
Crews were still on the scene about 9:30 p.m. Monday putting out hot spots.
Chapel Hill, Whitehouse and Jackson Heights fire departments responded to the blaze after the call came in about 7:30 p.m.
Richmond Crumpton, a firefighter with Jackson Heights Fire Department, said the single-story brick structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived and was considered to be a total loss.

Some of the fire also spread to trees and brush nearby.
Kelly Acker, assistant fire chief with Chapel Hill's department, said his department was on the scene within about six minutes of receiving the call.
The home was about 2,000 square feet and was abandoned for at least 15 years, he said.
The large amount of smoke seen in the area from the fire was a result of the cool weather and wind, Acker said.
It will be up to the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office to determine the cause of the fire, Acker said.
