One cabin was evacuated for precautionary reasons, but went untouched by a 12-acre brush fire in Wood County Saturday.
The fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. along County Road 2632 east of Mineola, according to a dispatcher for the Mineola police and fire departments.
Steve Finley, public information officer with the Mineola Volunteer Fire Department, said as many as 40 firefighters from multiple departments, including 20 who were attending a Wood County Fire School nearby, battled the blaze.
A local seismic crew assisted with air drops of water as well.
It took about three hours for them to put it out.
Finley said when firefighters arrived on the scene the fire had spread from leaves on the ground to tops of trees.
“I'm very proud of the firefighters in general from the local area that from a county wide geographic area we were able to put together crews that worked smartly and efficiently together,” Finley said by phone.
He said some speculated a power line sparking caused the blaze, but no official cause had been determined.
Low humidity levels and a strong northerly wind made for increased fire danger on Saturday, Finley said.
