Judge Declares Mistrial In Attempted Kidnapping Case After Hung Jury
By DAYNA WORCHEL

A Smith County judge declared a mistrial this evening in an attempted kidnapping case after a jury could not reach a decision.

The jury had entered its tenth hour of deliberation.

William McKnight Easley, 34, faced up to 10 years in prison if convicted in the Smith County 114th District Court. Judge Christi Kennedy presided over the trial.

Defense attorney Brent Ratekin said late Wednesday that the jury sent 12 notes to the court asking general questions for its own clarification.

Easley was accused of attempted kidnapping of a woman getting into her vehicle at the FRESH by Brookshires store on Old Jacksonville Highway in January.
