Former nurse ends career on lakeside
Once a nurse, Ms. Davis now runs the Palestine Pines RV Campground and Marina Park.
Ms. Davis spent most of her childhood growing up in Salina, Kan. Her father died in a car accident when she was only 7 years old, and her mother worked as an accountant for the federal government at an air base there. She grew up with one brother.
The air base was closed when she was 12, and her mother was transferred to Denver.
Ms. Davis attended Arvada West High School, where she took part in Latin Club, drill team, concert choir and National Honor Society. She graduated in 1970 and soon married.
She spent the next seven years as a stay-at-home mom, raising two daughters. Her then-husband’s family ran a truck-equipment business. Ms. Davis and her family then moved to Albuquerque, where the company had opened an office.
Ms. Davis moved to Lubbock in 1980, got her RN degree in 1981 and then went to work as a nurse for more than three years before taking a job with a company that sold hospital equipment.
The company promoted her to account executive and transferred her to Tyler in 1989. She spent eight years in that position before taking a job with a pharmaceutical company as a sales representative.
After more than five years with that company, she re-married in 2000 and returned to being a stay-at-home mom, raising three more children.
Ms. Davis eventually invested in real estate and became a property manager. She also got knee deep into volunteer work around Tyler.
She bought Palestine Pines RV Campground and Marina Park in March.

“It seemed like a great idea,” she said. “Other than that, I can’t tell you the motivation.
“It was something I had always wanted to do, and the opportunity presented itself. And here we are.”
Twelve miles southwest of Tyler, Palestine Pines is a 10-acre campground with 1,000 feet of shoreline along the eastern side of Lake Palestine at 17440 County Road 1182 off State Highway 155.
“It’s stunning. It’s gorgeous,” Ms. Davis said of the property. “It’s the largest cleared waterfront on the lake.”
The campground has RV hookups, pull throughs, a boat launch, swimming pool, laundromat, fishing pier, shuffleboard, volleyball, horseshoe pits, a playground, bath houses and barbecue pits, among other amenities. The campground also has cabins for rent.
Ms. Davis met her husband, Kent, a doctor, while she worked in pharmaceutical sales. Their first date was to Olive Garden.
“He flattered me by telling me I was a cheap date,” she quipped.
Her volunteer involvement has included Leadership Tyler, Komen and the Alzheimer’s Alliance.
Ms. Davis also enjoys reading, gardening, spending time with grandchildren, leading the children’s choir at Green Acres Baptist Church and volunteering elsewhere at the church.
