Investigation continues into small plane crash
Federal and state authorities continue to investigate a small airplane crash in Upshur County.

Authorities were called to the crash site on Tranquil Road southwest of the Gilmer Airport around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.

A 2001 Cessna Dragonfly airplane carrying two passengers crashed into a densely wooded area south of Fox Stevens Field, according to authorities with the National Transportation Safety Board and the sheriff’s office.

Tony Molinaro, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said it could take weeks or months before a cause of the crash is determined. The plane apparently crashed shortly after departing the airport, he said.

The pilot, who dialed 911, and the copilot were taken to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler with minor injuries, according to the release.

The plane, bearing the serial number N2448, is registered to a Milwaukie, Ore., man named Jeffery Peterson, according to FAA records.
