Tyler police arrested two people for misdemeanor thefts on Thursday night after a series of alleged Craigslist scams.
According to a news release issued by the Tyler Police Department, the suspects placed an ad online to sell an iPad but are accused of giving buyers backpacks tied shut with paper notebooks inside instead.
According to the release, the buyers all met the seller in apartment complex parking lots.
When the buyer handed the payment to the suspects, they would flee the area before the buyers had time to inspect their purchase. The suspects pulled the scam three times in two days before being arrested Thursday evening, according to the release.
Undercover police officers responded to the online ad and were able to arrest the suspects, one of whom also is charged with evading arrest, the release reads.
“The Tyler Police Department would like to remind citizens to exercise extreme caution when conducting financial transactions with anyone they meet over the Internet,” according to the release.
