Jury finds man guilty of drug trafficking

A federal jury found a Tyler man guilty on Wednesday of charges of conspiracy with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

A federal jury found a Tyler man guilty on Wednesday of charges of conspiracy with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
Bonifacio Nunez-Romero, 41, will be sentenced for the crime in several weeks and faces a minimum of 15 years, but could serve as much as 20 years, prosecutors said Wednesday. The trial took place at the William M. Steger Federal Building and United States Courthouse with U.S. District Judge Michael Schneider presiding.
A 23-year-old informant testified against Nunez-Romero on Tuesday that he had taught her how to establish a clientele to sell methamphetamines.
She agreed to testify in order to have two charges of engaging in organized criminal activity and burglary dropped in February. The cases were pending against her the Smith County courts.
