Suspect In Double Homicide Still Loose
CANTON — Van Zandt County authorities are asking the public for help in apprehending an armed and dangerous man believed to have killed a Ben Wheeler couple last week.
“One thing we want to stress is that he is armed and is extremely dangerous. Do not approach him, but immediately contact your local law enforcement agency,” Sheriff Pat Burnett said at a Monday press conference.
Burnett was referring to 31-year-old Donny Lee Greenhow, who has been named the suspect in the double slaying of Peter Shick, 74 and his wife Latricia, 55.
A capital murder warrant has been issued for Greenhow, who police believe has stolen multiple vehicles in the past week.
Burnett, Sheriff's Detective Sam Mayer and Van Zandt County District Attorney Chris Martin released new details in the homicide and Greenhow.
Martin said Greenhow has been in trouble with law enforcement in the past, including an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon case as a juvenile.
He said investigators believe, during the past month, Greenhow has stolen several vehicles and multiple weapons from various friends and family.
Mayer said Greenhow knew the Shicks, and the crime was not random.
Shick was found dead of gunshot wounds in the couple's bedroom in the singlewide mobile home on County Road 4812. Mrs. Shick was found in the kitchen of the home, Mayer said.

The couple was discovered dead Friday, after family members could not reach the couple and noticed a foul odor from the home.
Burnett said the couple may have been dead up to nine days before they were discovered.
Investigators said they yet have developed a clear motive for the homicides, but said Greenhow recently had bounced from location to location with family and friends and had stolen vehicles, money and numerous guns during the past month.
Mayer said they were obtaining a subpoena to gain information from Greenhow's Facebook page, because they believe he has been using it to reach out for help from family and friends.
Martin said investigators knew Greenhow was in Waco early Wednesday, but they have no idea where he may be at this time.
He said Greenhow showed up at a friend's home in Waco, and the friend asked where he got the pickup he was driving, which he is accused of stealing from the Shicks at the time of the homicides.
“He told the friend that the truck belonged to someone he knew. The friend said he had to go to Nashville, Tenn., and asked Greenhow if he would mind house sitting,” he said.

Martin said when the man arrived back in Waco from his trip, he found the Shicks' pickup at his residence and his vehicle missing, along with Greenhow.
