The UT Tyler Patriot Dancers Earn Awards At Competition

School spirit earned a group of dancers from The University of Texas at Tyler recognition during a recent camp.
The Universal Dance Association presented the Most Collegiate Award to the UT Tyler Patriot Dancers during its Collegiate Camp last month at Texas State University San Marcos.
The award is given to the team that shows the most all around collegiate spirit, according to a university news release.
The Patriot Dancers also placed in the top three in the fight song competition.
About 20 teams from Texas and around the country participated in the event, according to the news release.
Patriot Dancers coach Jessica Reel said she was proud of everything the team accomplished at the camp, especially earning the collegiate spirit award.
“This award is only given to one team from each division and puts the Patriot Dancers on par with exceptional teams like the University of Oklahoma and The University of Texas at Austin pom squads,” she said, according to the news release. “This is a very talented group of women, and they set the bar high for the upcoming season.”
Team members are freshmen Christina Dodd, of Hallsville; Celinda Connolley, of Northlake; Emily Auth, of Rockwall; and juniors Lauren Marvin, of White Oak, and Katrina Flores, Hannah Martindale and Sarah Leonard, all of Whitehouse.
The team members learned 10 routines and were evaluated on nine individually and one as a group, according to the news release.
