DPS Seeking Suspect In Trooper Assault Thursday

GILMER — Authorities are seeking a man suspected of kicking a state trooper in the leg and fleeing on foot after a traffic stop near Gilmer on Thursday morning, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jean Dark said.

GILMER — Authorities are seeking a man suspected of kicking a state trooper in the leg and fleeing on foot after a traffic stop near Gilmer on Thursday morning, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Jean Dark said.
She identified the suspect as Sawyer Zane Lacaze, 19 or 20, whose last known address was Pittsburg. Lacaze, who is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing black pants and no shirt, she said.
As of 9 p.m. Thursday, Trooper Dark told KYTX CBS19 that Lacaze had not been located.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Gilmer DPS office at 903-797-2753.
The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 271 just south of Gilmer when DPS Trooper Brandon Love stopped a man for an expired registration sticker and became aware of narcotics, which may have been sticking out of the motorist’s pants, Trooper Dark said.
She said she believed a struggle ensued, during which Love was kicked. He was treated and released at East Texas Medical Center-Gilmer for minor injuries, Trooper Dark said.
