Tyler Police Make Arrest In Stabbing
By KENNETH DEAN
Smith County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a stabbing at a home in the county Monday morning.
Sheriff's Lt. Tony Dana said the investigation was in its early stages and little information was available as to what led to the incident.
"We got a 911 call right at midnight that there had been a stabbing, and when we arrived, we found the victim had been stabbed in the abdomen," he said.
Dana said the victim, 43-year-old Gary Wayne Simmons, was being treated at East Texas Medical Center for nonlife threatening injuries.
Dana said Glenn Ray Cooper, 47, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
"The victim told us he heard someone outside and saw it was an acquaintance and opened the door. He said the other man just reached forward and stabbed him in the abdomen," he said. "We do not know what precipitated the stabbing."
According to jail records, as of Monday afternoon Cooper remained jailed on a $100,000 bond.
