Sarah L. Motes
Sarah Lois Moseley Motes went home to be with her Lord on July 13, 2012, at the age of 94 after suffering a stroke.

She was born to Henry L. and Lucy Hughes Moseley on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1918, in Hopkins County and was raised in Sulphur Springs. She faithfully served the Lord, her community and her country as a surgical nurse for approximately 70 years. She served at Chance Vought Aircraft Corporation during World War II, the Webb Air Force Base Hospital and the V.A. Hospital in Big Spring during the Korean War. During her career, she also served at Mother Frances Hospital and ETMC. She participated in all types of surgery. The last 50 years of her career were shared with the late Dr. Jim Vaughn. Sarah was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church, enjoying Bible studies and Forerunners activities, and acting as social chairman and group captain of her Sunday school classes. Her favorite sport was playing dominoes with her 42 Club and she was a member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She also enjoyed hosting friends and family gatherings in her home regularly.

Mrs. Motes was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, D.M. Motes; her infant daughter Lucy; 11 half-siblings; her sister, Modena Ishmael, of Sulphur Springs; and grandson, John Mark Motes, of Tyler. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary Motes, of Tyler; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and David McCullough, of Tyler; four grandchildren, Stephen Motes, Sarah E. Motes, Alex McCullough and Hayden McCullough; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Motes, Macie Motes and Stephanie Motes. She also is survived by her sister, Retta Brown, of Dallas, along with very special nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Services for Mrs. Motes will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Dr. David O. Dykes and Dr. Darryle Dunks officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are Glen Uzzel, Frank Prater, James Morris, Mitch Andrews, Dale Booth and Alan Roseman. A private burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the funeral home.
