Bullard Man Arrested For Child Sexual Assault

Staff Writer

A Bullard man remained in the Smith County Jail on Wednesday on sexual assault charges.

Jason Bass, 37, was arrested on June 29 at his home by Bullard Police Officer Steven Anderson.

Bullard Police Chief Gary Don Lewis said his department got involved after a girl came with her mother to report an inappropriate incident that happened sometime after the first of the year at Bass' home.

After collaborating with witness-es, authorities determined that another girl, who was friends with the first child, had been sexually assaulted by Bass since 2009 and had made an outcry to the Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County, stating that Bass had sexual intercourse with her over a long period of time, according to a police report.

Bass was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child sexual contact, second-degree felonies, Smith County Jail records show.

His bond is set at $300,000.

Lewis said he believes other charges will be filed and that there may be other agencies that get involved.

From here, the case will go to a grand jury.
