Tyler ISD Board To Discuss Reid’s Departure

The Tyler ISD school board will discuss the future of the superintendent and the district in its first meeting since learning about Dr. Randy Reid’s expected departure.

On July 2, Keller ISD named Reid its lone finalist for the superintendent position.

That district has to wait 21 days before officially hiring the lone finalist.

TISD board members are scheduled to meet in closed session Monday to discuss Reid’s contract and employment status.

Reid, 53, has served as TISD’s superintendent since 2007. In that time, the district implemented a new curriculum, saw the passage and implementation of a $125 million bond package and created and approved a long-range plan.

Reid also dealt with the failure of an $89.5 million bond proposal, state funding cuts, and schools failing to meet state and/or federal education standards.

District spokeswoman Laura Jackson said the board will begin discussing a transition plan, timeline, and how to potentially move forward on finding an interim superintendent.

Most, if not all, discussion is expected to take place in closed session. However, if the board takes action regarding the superintendent’s contract and employment status, the vote would take place in open session.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at noon Monday in Room A of the district Administration Building, 1319 New Sunnybrook Drive in Tyler.
