Tyler Police: No New Leads In Friday Stabbing
By KENNETH DEAN
Staff Writer

Tyler police are continuing their investigation into the stabbing of a Tyler woman Friday as she descended the stairs at her apartment building.

Tyler police spokesman Doyle Lynch said 40-year-old Victoria Massey is now listed in stable condition and detectives are talking with her about the incident.

However, late Tuesday afternoon Lynch said detectives have no new information about the attack or the person responsible.

“At this time we have nothing new in the case,” he said.

When asked if there were any suspects, Lynch said the only suspect description was given Friday of a black male wearing a red shirt.

Ms. Massey, Smith County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Quincy Beavers’ secretary, was on her way to work when she was attacked in the north stairwell of the Moore Grocery Loft apartments in the 400 block of North Broadway Avenue.

Lynch, who also is the police department’s training officer, said it remains unknown if the attacker was someone who knows Ms. Massey or a random person.

A resident at the apartments in an earlier story said she saw a black man running from the northern stairwell area with blood covering his face and arms shortly after she heard screaming.

Residents said transients enter the property and have even charged cell phones in the building’s hallways and rummaged through trashcans in the parking lot.

Lynch said the public should be aware of their surroundings and if anyone sees something suspicious, they are urged to contact authorities immediately.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Tyler Police Department at 903-531-1000 or the Smith County Crimestoppers at 903-597-2833.
