JACKSONVILLE — Authorities are releasing the identity of a Jacksonville woman who died after being hit by a truck this weekend.
The accident happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of South Jackson Street, near Mother Frances-Jacksonville.
At the same time, a pedestrian, Traci Clark, 42, was in the median and failed to yield to the oncoming traffic.
“She attempted to cross where a crosswalk was not provided,” Daniel said. “The pickup swerved to the outside lane, the pedestrian stopped, turned to the north, saw the truck and was struck by the front left side of the truck. … My understanding is there was some kind of verbal dispute between her and someone there (with her). She walked away from it and walked in the middle of the road.”
Ms. Clark, who is not related to the truck driver, was taken to Mother Frances-Jacksonville and then taken by helicopter to Tyler. Smith County Justice of the Peace Judge James Meredith pronounced her dead at 6:39 a.m. Monday. No autopsy was ordered.
Daniel said he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed against Clark, who was accompanied by a 14-year-old passenger.
