Quail Creek Apartment Fire Deemed Suspicious
From Staff Reports

A fire that damaged two Tyler apartment units Monday is being called suspicious.

The Tyler Fire Department responded to a two-alarm structure fire at Quail Creek Apartments, 4901 Kinsey Drive.

Officials received the initial call at 11:44 a.m., and the caller reported seeing smoke coming from one of the apartments, fire investigator Laura Mason said.

The first arriving unit called for a second alarm. Five engines and one ladder company, along with a district chief and an investigator, responded to the scene.

"The fire started in one of the apartments and caused damage to several others. The cause, which appears suspicious in nature is still under investigation and there were no injuries," she said.

Ms. Mason said one apartment was heavily damaged with fire and another suffered smoke and water damage.

Bob Clements, 21, lives in the apartment with his roommate, Terrell Laster, 22. Most of the two men's possessions were lost to the fire, including a 62-inch television and furniture.

"I came back from running errands, and it was smoking out the windows," Clements said.

No one was home when the blaze started, but a downstairs neighbor called the fire department.

Clements said the fire was suspicious because it looked like it started in two different places inside the apartment.

Laster said he was grateful to have renter's insurance.
