Monday Accident Kills Man Crossing Street
A Monday morning accident claimed the life of a man as he crossed a major thoroughfare in Tyler.
Tyler police officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of West Gentry Parkway to a pedestrian accident shortly after midnight.
According to a news release, officers learned 47-year-old Ruben Oswald Orantes, of California, was struck by a passenger car while crossing the road.
Police said Orantes was taken to East Texas Medical Center, where he died a short time later as a result of his injuries.
The driver that struck the man was not injured.
Police said Orantes was staying in a local hotel and was working with a tree trimming business.
Investigators believe Orantes was walking back to his hotel when he was struck crossing Gentry Parkway by a southbound vehicle.
Police said Orantes failed to cross the road at a designated cross walk and is determined to be at fault.
