UPDATE: Troopers Suspend Pursuit Of Driver, Person On Foot; No Arrests Made Yet
A search in the vicinity of Smith County Road 47 for two men wanted in connection with the attempted stop of a vehicle by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper for a traffic violation was discontinued Friday evening.

Spokeswoman Jean Dark said the driver of the vehicle did not yield when a DPS trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on Farm-to-Market 2661, which is west of the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport.

Troopers pursued the vehicle along Texas Highway 64, Big Eddy Road and Smith County Road 47, also known as Bundy Road.

The driver fled and eventually jumped out of the vehicle on CR 47 and took off into the woods, she said.
Smith County Precinct 1 brought in a dog to help with the search, but officers lost track of him, said Sgt. Jason Bundy with the highway patrol.

In the meantime, a passenger that troopers were unaware of got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and took off.

Bundy said officers believe they know who the initial driver was and that he fled the scene because of outstanding warrants in Van Zandt and Smith counties.

The driver of the truck who got out and ran is still wanted and will probably be charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, Bundy said.

No arrest had been made as of 9:30 p.m. Friday, Ms. Dark said.
