Caddo Mills Woman Sentenced To Jail For Copper Theft
A Caddo Mills woman was sentenced to a year in jail for stealing copper wire, a Rusk County jury decided Thursday.

April Ann Morris, 21, was convicted after five minutes of deliberation by a 12-member jury, according to a news release issued by the Rusk County District Attorney’s Office.

Ms. Morris and Jacob Donahue were identified as the people who stole copper electrical wiring along Texas Highway 79 east, roughly five miles outside of Henderson, the release states. The pair was confronted by two bystanders over the crime, according to the release.

“When informed that Rusk County Sheriff’s Office had just been called … Morris and Donahue jumped into a light colored SUV and fled at a high rate of speed,” according to the release. “The civilians were able to provide a license plate for the defendant’s fleeing SUV.”

Donahue pleaded guilty to a theft charged related to the crime in December and also received a one-year jail sentence, the release reads.

Each had been charged with a level of theft considered a state jail felony.
