Jacksonville Top Tomato Contest Winners Announced
The Jacksonville Area Arts Council selected four winners for the Top Tomato Contest, which took place last month.

The categories and winners are Best Jacksonville Tomato: Mark Kerzee Insurance, 217 E. Commerce St.; Most Unique: Baker Financial Services, 209 S. Ragsdale St.; Best Represents Your Business: GME Inc., 515 E. Loop 456; and Best Theme went to Jacksonville College, 105 B.J. Albritton Drive.

According to a news release, the contest judged the 665-pound concrete tomatoes -- a project of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.

"Painting the tomatoes prior to Tomato Fest was our goal and this contest we believed helped increase those tomatoes delivered to be painted for the June 9, 28th Annual Tomato Fest," Chamber President Peggy Renfro said. "It was a perfect opportunity to utilize members of the Jacksonville Area Art Council to help with the fun project."

As of Friday, the chamber had sold more than 120 concrete tomatoes and will continue to sell them until there is one at every corner in the community, a news release states.  The cost for the tomato is $200, which includes delivery.

For more information on how to purchase a concrete tomato, contact Amber Mayfield at the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce at 903-586-2217.
