Cherokee County’s Crime Stoppers Seeking Leads
Cherokee County Crime Stoppers is seeking information on the following incidents:
On May 10, Cherokee County authorities responded to the Shooks Bluff Hunting Club on Farm-to-Market Road 1247. Once on scene, the sheriff’s deputy was met by several members of the hunting club, who discovered the lock on the gate was changed. When they checked the camp site, they found that nine campers and two cabins were broken into sometime between May 5 and May 10. Each unit was forcefully entered and rummaged through.
Among the items stolen were common camping, hunting, fishing and assorted outdoor equipment, various types of ammunition, clothing, and canned food items, electronics such as hand held two-way radios, TVs, radios, DVD players, satellite TV receiver boxes and appliances. The total combined loss due to damage and theft is estimated at more than $15,000.

At 4:30 a.m. Saturday, three burglaries, which appear to be similar or possibly related, were reported to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. The first burglary occurred off Farm-to-Market Road 2138 between Maydelle and Jacksonville. The owner returned after being gone most of the evening and found the back door was forced open. Once inside, the owner found many electronics were stolen, including a TV, an iPad 2, a Nook Tablet and Nintendo Wii game console, games and controllers.
The second burglary occurred at a residence on Farm-to-Market Road 747 North, just off U.S. Highway 79, west of Jacksonville. The owner returned to find their door forced open and the house ransacked. At this location the burglars also stole electronics, including a flat screen TV and a computer.

The third burglary occurred at a residence located on County Road 3816 in the Mount Selman area. At this location, the home owner returned about 4:15 a.m. Saturday after leaving Friday night. When they returned home, they saw the back door was forced open and left standing open. Items reportedly taken from this residence were electronics, including two TVs, a Sony Playstation3, games and controllers. No other items appeared to be disturbed or stolen.
All of these burglaries appear to be similar and occurred between 4 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday. Only electronic items were taken; entry was gained by forcing open the back door; and the burglars would exit through the broken back door and leave them standing wide open.
