Veterans To Hold Free Picnic Today In Canton
The Van Zandt Veterans Memorial will hold a free picnic today at the Veterans Memorial at Texas highways 19 and 243 in Canton.
The flag will be lowered at 10 a.m. with taps playing and then the “Star-Spangled Banner” will be sung by Barbara Cooper. State Rep. Dan Flynn and Field McConnell, from Wisconsin, who flew the F-4 Phantom Jet for seven years, will speak.
Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served for free.
The program will end at 2 p.m.

TYLER MEMORIAL PARK
Tyler Memorial Funeral Home Cemetery and Mausoleum, 12053 Texas Highway 64 West, will have its annual Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. today.
More than 500 people are expected to attend.
A flyby of four F-16s is scheduled along with a rifle salute.
Local veterans will speak. Taps will be played, along with the “Armed Forces Medley” and “God Bless America.”
A procession of veterans also will be a part of the event.

CLOSINGS
All Smith County offices will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day. Offices will resume their normal business hours Tuesday.
All Smith County and federal courts will be closed.
Tyler ISD, Tyler Junior College, Texas College and The University of Texas at Tyler will be closed.
Some Tyler city offices plan to close today to observe the Memorial Day holiday.
Tyler Solid Waste will not run Monday. Routes normally collected on today and Tuesday will be picked up a day later. There are no changes to Thursday and Friday collections.
Tyler Pounds Regional Airport will be open throughout the holiday, but administrative offices will be closed.
The airport administrative offices will be closed on today. Airport customers should contact their airline or check the airport website at www.TylerAirport.com for special holiday travel schedules.
