Berman, Schaefer Debate Record
District 6 Rep. Leo Berman took offense to a statement made by opposing candidate Matt Schaefer last week.

Schaefer criticized Berman’s signing onto Gov. Rick Perry’s Texas Budget Compact — focused on creating transparency in the budget process — as a political move because he’d voted against similar legislation during the session.

The legislation Schaefer criticized Ber-man for voting against did not make it out of the House Appropriations committee for a vote, Berman said.

Over the weekend, Schaefer attacked Berman for voting against an amendment to Senate Bill 1811 that carried the same language as the House bill.

Berman defended that vote and said he voted against it because he did not want the Senate bill to be over encumbered by amendments and die. The amendment passed with 85 votes in favor over 63 against and was added to Senate Bill 1811, for which Berman voted in favor, according to state records.
