Owens Student Selected For Leadership Academy
Owens Elementary School student Carter Maberry, 10, was selected to travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth area as a participant in Education in Action's Lone Star Leadership Academy in June.

The five-day academy is designed to help students develop leadership skills while learning about Texas and its leaders, program information indicated.

Carter will learn about future career and internship opportunities and visit significant Texas sites, including the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science, the Amon Carter Museum and the Texas Civil War Museum, among several other locations.

Students also will visit the Fort Worth Botanic Garden and tour the Dallas Cowboys Stadium and Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The leadership academy exists to provide one-of-a-kind opportunities for outstanding fourth- through eighth-graders to learn about the spirit of Texas.

Participants discuss what they learn, complete problem solving and decision-making simulations, exercise creativity and practice presentation skills in leadership groups. Students are nominated based on their academic success, demonstrated leadership, teacher nomination, and involvement in school and community activities.

Education in Action is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young people to be informed and active community leaders.
