We are a Texas medical family with two physicians — one having practiced in Tyler 40 years and a son who is in active medical practice in San Antonio. Our conservative District 6 state Rep. Leo Berman has consistently devoted his time to improving health care work environments for Texas and particularly for his East Texas constituency. Leo’s commitment has made medicine better for our family and for workers and patients.
Leo served as floor leader in the Texas House when they worked to pass Proposition 12 (tort reform) in 2003. In the ensuing nine years, that legislation has had a substantial impact on medical work in Texas and nationally. Punitive liability insurance rates for health care workers have moderated and are no longer crippling to doctors, nurses, dentists and technicians. Prop. 12 legislation protects medicine and business from frivolous lawsuits and has become a model for all fifty states because it was so well-conceived and well-implemented. The American Medical Association has now removed Texas from its list of states experiencing a liability crisis.
Additionally, Leo has a solid history of being pro-active in finding solutions for children’s health care issues in our state. Medical care is a major economic driver of our local economy, and re-electing our experienced and informed representative will ensure that these improvements are maintained and other problems solved in the future. We need Leo’s effective and visionary leadership. Re-elect Leo.
