A 35-year-old man remains hospitalized this morning after being shot during a domestic disturbance late Wednesday night.
Smith County Sheriff's Lt. Tony Dana said his department was dispatched to a location in the 20500 block of County Road 26 shortly before midnight Wednesday.
Dana said detectives have learned the victim was shot when his fiancé and a man who has not yet been identified became involved in a heated argument.
“The victim attempted to get between the two in an effort to cool things down, and for whatever reason the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot him in the abdomen,” he said.
Dana said the victim, who also has not yet been identified, was rushed to Mother Frances Hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.
Dana said he is awaiting additional information before he releases more details involving the victim and the 27-year-old suspect.
