Mayor To Focus On ‘Working Together’ In Annual Address
Mayor Barbara Bass will focus her annual State of the City address Wednesday on “working together as a community to accomplish great things.”

The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its fifth annual State of the City luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Harvey Convention Center, 2000 W. Front St.

Susan Guthrie, managing director of external relations for the city of Tyler, said Mayor Bass will talk about working together as a community to accomplish great things, as well as how public/private partnerships have been and will continue to be critical in moving big community projects forward.

“This is the fifth year that we have done this event and it has been very well received,” chamber Chief Operating Officer Henry Bell said. “We are moving to Harvey Convention Center to accommodate more people this year.”

Last year, 400 people attended the State of the City, held each year as one of the chamber’s quarterly luncheons.

Bell said five years ago, the chamber partnered with the city to give the State of the City address to promote the positive services and work the city does, and to help communicate important information about the community to the businesses in the area.

Three years ago, the chamber added Leadership Tyler and the celebration of its current-year class graduation to the event, he said. On Wednesday, Leadership Tyler Class 25 will graduate.

Bell said on Thursday that 473 tickets had been sold but tickets still were available at
www.sotc2012.eventbrite.com or by calling 903-592-1661, extension 223. Tickets are $25 each or $250 for a table of 10. This year’s event is sponsored by TXU Energy, Luminant Academy and Jim Toman Insurance.
