All Saints Students Take On Top-Tier Debaters
Four All Saints Episcopal School students qualified to compete in a national speech and debate competition next month.

Ella Lowry, Lauren McMann, Austin Green and Makenzie Lohman will compete in the National Forensic League National Speech and Debate Tournament in Indianapolis on June 10-15. The event is sponsored by Lincoln Financial Group.

The competition caps off what has been an outstanding year for the All Saints speech and debate team, according to a statement from the school.

Among this year’s accomplishments, Miss Lohman was named a National Forensic League Academic All American in recognition of speech and debate excellence and academic success.

Miss Lohman is a junior and has competed in Lincoln-Douglas debate, Original Oratory and Persuasive Speaking.

This is the second time Miss Lohman and the other three All Saints students have qualified for the national tournament, which is billed as the world’s largest academic competition, according to its website.

Once there, the students will join more than 3,200 participants from around the country and as far away as China. More than $200,000 in college scholarships will be awarded to top performers at the event.

National competition occurs in 11 main events. These are policy debate, public forum debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Congressional debate–House, Congressional debate–Senate, original oratory, United States extemporaneous speaking, international extemporaneous speaking, humorous interpretation, dramatic interpretation and duo interpretation.

In addition, there are seven consolation and supplemental events, according to the statement.

The National Forensic League is a nonprofit honor society that exists to promote high school and middle school speech and debate activities to develop a student’s essential life skills and values, according to the statement.
