Tyler Police Searching For Bank Robbery Suspect
By TIM MONZINGO

Tyler police are searching for the man they believe to be responsible for two bank robberies in the city in less than a year.

On Thursday, a holdup alarm called officers to the BBVA Compass Bank at 6910 S. Broadway Ave. shortly after 3 p.m., Tyler Police Department spokesman Don Martin said.

At the bank, employees said a white man dressed in a blue baseball jersey over a white T-shirt and blue shorts displayed a handgun and asked for money, he said. The suspect is believed to be about 5 feet 10 inches tall with sandy-blond hair, according to a news release issued by the department.

Martin said the robber made off with an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene on foot.

Based on surveillance video from the bank and the Altra Credit Union on Troup Highway, which was robbed Aug. 31, police believe the man is responsible for both incidents, Martin said.

Employees at the Altra Credit Union described the suspect as a man about 30 years old. He was wearing a fedora hat, black sports jacket, yellow shirt and brown shoes.

In that incident, the suspect presented a note to the teller asking for money.

Thursday's incident made for the third bank robbery in Tyler this year to Martin's knowledge, he said.
Martin said the FBI is working with Tyler police to solve the robbery.

Previously, robberies at the Telco Plus Credit Union on Front Street and Regions Bank branch at 1810 ESE Loop 323 were tied to a woman who was arrested shortly after the second robbery.

Tyler Police are asking anyone with information about Thursday's incident to contact the department at 903-531-1000.
