Noonday firefighters are expected to have collection points in their city, but specific locations have not been announced.
Upcoming boot drives also are planned in Arp, Troup, Red Springs, Winona, Whitehouse, Chapel Hill, and Flint/ Gresham.
The Tyler Fire Department participated in MDA’s Fill the Boot Campaign May 4-6, raising a total of $21,000.
“MDA would like to thank the citizens of Smith County and the surrounding towns for always supporting their Fill the Boot efforts,” spokeswoman Candace Pate said in a prepared statement. “East Texas fire departments would not be able to help MDA help so many local MDA families without your support. MDA would also like to thank all of the East Texas fire departments for supporting their efforts to eradicate neuromuscular disease.”
The East Texas Chapter of the organization serves more than 400 families affected by neuromuscular diseases. Departments interested in participating in the boot drive may visit www. mda.org or contact Candace Pate at cbpate@mdausa.org.
