A jury found a Tyler man guilty of robbery on Thursday and sentenced him to life in prison in the Smith County 7th District Court, Smith County Assistant District Attorney Richard Vance said.

Terrence Cuba, 27, will be eligible for parole after he serves 15 years for the second-degree felony, Vance said. Cuba faced 25 years to life in prison.

In September, Cuba was caught trying to take a GPS unit from a truck belonging to Preferred Home Medical in Tyler on North Glenwood Boulevard. The victim, an employee of the company, asked Cuba what he was doing, and a struggle began after Cuba pushed the victim to the ground, Vance said. The victim asked that his name not be used.

Cuba ran from the business and the victim chased the defendant for about a mile. During this time, Cuba threw a softball-sized rock at the head of the victim but missed hitting the victim, Vance said.

Two individuals who worked for the American Plumbing Co. in Tyler saw Cuba run inside of his home and told police where the defendant went, Vance said. Police then brought the defendant to the victim, who identified him, Vance said.

Defense attorney Kurt Noell represented Cuba.
