The Best Candidate, May 16
Our candidates for sheriff require scrutiny. We want a native Texan who best knows and relates to the residents, peace officers and leaders of Smith County — one who has extensive field duty experience throughout our county. That eliminates the non-native Texan.
We want someone who knows and related to the residents, the peace officers and the leaders of Smith County, and has extensive field duty experience throughout this county. That eliminates the candidate who has not been employed by a Texas law agency for the past 20 years and has never patrolled Smith County.
There is one candidate for sheriff who has been serving us daily throughout our county for the past 16 years as game warden — Chris Green. He wants cuts in the top-heavy Sheriff’s Department to put more boots on the ground, and we can be assured that a pair of those boots will be his. He will do the desk work as well as getting out in the field, 24/7, with his men — leading and training by example.
