Possible Lightning Strike Hits Dixie Elementary
A possible lightning strike at Dixie Elementary School prom-pted administrators to call emergency personnel.
Andrew Whitfield, with Tyler ISD police, said a campus administrator reported on Tuesday smelling smoke in one of the school's hallways.
Dixie is located at 213 Patton Lane, west of west Loop 323.
School officials thought lightning might have struck the school's main building, Whitfield said.
However, firefighters responded to the scene, checked the building and found nothing that concerned them, he said.
The call to emergency personnel was made about 3:30 p.m. and most students already had left for the day.
Some were in another building for an afterschool program, Whitfield said.
No one confirmed if lightning did strike.
