Lon Morris Student Arrested Following High-Speed Chase

A Lon Morris College linebacker remained in jail this afternoon on charges of evading arrest and leading police on a weekend car chase.
The chase started about 4 p.m. Sunday as a traffic stop on Canada Street near the intersection of Beaumont Street.
Jacksonville police attempted to make the traffic stop when the vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Antajun Guinn, fled in a northeast direction and exited the city limits on Texas Highway 135, Sgt. Jason Price said.
He said speeds were in excess of 90 miles per hour as the chase continued, but Guinn, who is originally from Jacksonville and later moved to Gregg County, eventually came to a slow stop about 10 miles outside the city limits.
“It appears that Guinn ran out of gas, and (it is possible to) rock back and forth to suck the last bit of gas, (which he tried to do and) made it for about three or four more miles,” Price said.
Once the vehicle stopped, officers made contact with Guinn. However, he refused to step out of the vehicle.
Price said police sprayed him with pepper spray, and he still resisted. In the end, it took three officers to get him handcuffed, and Guinn continued to be combative and kick as he rode in the police car, he said.
Guinn appeared to be intoxicated on an unknown substance at the time, Price said. Troup police were also on standby and had a roadblock set up in case it was needed.
Guinn is charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, a state jail felony, and was given "about" 12 traffic citations, Price said. His bond was set at $15,000.
Price said Guinn has numerous arrests and convictions for violent offenses, and officials later discovered that he had about $800 in unpaid traffic fines.
