Democrats Misread Lincoln, Ignore History, May 11
During the recent White House Correspondents Dinner the master of ceremonies, Jimmy Kimmel, joked that Abraham Lincoln would have killed himself if he could have seen what the Republican Party had become today.
The joke got laughs from the mostly Democrat-sympathizing attendees. But why hasn’t anyone in the media carried this train of thought further?
Remember Lincoln (a Republican) was fighting a war against an enemy that was almost entirely of the Democratic affiliation. The Democrats were the party of slavery and went to war to save that institution.

They try to spin it and say the war was over “states’ rights,” but that is a euphemism for their states right to keep slaves.
Until the late in the 20th Century, the Democratic Party was the party of segregation and oppression for minority races — especially black Americans.
The Ku Klux Klan was overwhelmingly Democratic. Democratic KKK members have been on the Supreme Court (Justice Hugo Black) and in Congress (Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia).
Is it any wonder that the Democrats and their supporters do not want this history to be brought up?
Back to Kimmel’s joke — how would Democrats of Lincoln’s era have responded if they could have seen the future and their party today?
