Rusk County residents are encouraged to attend a forum next week so they can get better acquainted with their local candidates.
The candidate forum, co-sponsored by the Henderson Area Chamber of Commerce and KPXI radio, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the Henderson Civic Center, 1005 Texas Highway 64 West. A meet and greet with the candidates is scheduled for 5:30 to 6 p.m.
Chamber Executive Director Judy Sewell said county commissioner and constable candidates in contested races will have an opportunity to address the crowd. Candidates in the sheriff, county attorney and District 11 state representative races also will have an opportunity to make opening remarks before answering questions from a moderator.

Chamber Executive Director Judy Sewell said county commissioner and constable candidates in contested races will have an opportunity to address the crowd. Candidates in the sheriff, county attorney and District 11 state representative races also will have an opportunity to make opening remarks before answering questions from a moderator.
The state representative candidates — incumbent Chuck Hopson, attorney Travis Clardy and farmer Tony Sevilla — will have an opportunity for rebuttal, Ms. Sewell said. No questions will be taken from the floor.
“The main purpose of this is actually for the public — to give the public the opportunity to meet the candidates one on one and ask them whatever questions they want to ask and see how their reactions are in public and be better informed voters,” Ms. Sewell said.
“We certainly would encourage everyone to vote either early or on Election Day (May 29).”
In the meantime, residents may submit forum questions by calling the chamber at 903-657-5528 or by sending an email to judy.sewell@hendersontx.com.
