9-Year-Old Girl Dies From Brain Aneurysm While Playing
Funeral arrangements for a 9-year-old who died while playing at a church in Quitman Thursday are set for Sunday.
According to a news release issued by the First United Methodist Church in Quitman, Ally Baker was playing on the church's playground when she collapsed Wednesday evening. She was flown to Children's Medical Center in Dallas, where doctors determined an aneurysm in her brain was the source of the problem, the release states.
Ally passed away at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, according to the church.
"Ally was a delight to be around. She will be greatly missed by her classmates, teachers and many friends," wrote Quitman ISD Assistant Superintendent Rhonda Turner in a news release. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family."
Mary Ann Nichols, the principal at Quitman Elementary School, echoed Mrs. Turner's sentiments.
"Ally was a precious girl full of boundless energy. We will miss her giant smile and big hugs," she said in the statement. "She was such a blessing to us."
Funeral services for Ally are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist in Quitman, at 406 E Lane St., and visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Asmussen and LyBrand Funeral Home.
Donations in Ally's name can be made at City National Bank, according to the church.
