Noonday’s Turman To Sign Books In Tyler On Friday
Joe Garner Turman, a native of Noonday, will sign his latest book, "40 Days to Eternity," on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 4916 S. Broadway Ave.
He also will sign his books at The Scroll Christian Book Store, 2209 S. Broadway Ave., on Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The book, "40 Days to Eternity," is a romantic tale wrapped in the historic events of the last days of the Vietnam War. It communicates the love and faith of a young couple and the drama and tension that characterized that time.
Turman, when asked if the book was based on real-life events, said, "Yes, many of the events in the book are based on real life experiences. The main character in the story is taken from the life of a Vietnam vet who came back to Vietnam to try to find the girl he loves. While attempting to find his fiancee, he's caught up in the chaos of the last days of the war."
When asked about the last days in Vietnam, Turman said, "Yes, we were there. My family and I were evacuated out of Nha Trang just before the North Vietnamese Army came down Highway One to the city. The chaos and confusion was unbelievable."
Turman is the author of three best-selling books: Getting on with the Going, which is in its sixth printing; Buddy, The Life of Texas Boxing Legend, Buddy Turman, and Sling Creek.
After serving for 30 years, working among churches in five countries, Turman, and his wife Gloria, live in retirement in Guntersville, Ala.
