Texas College Graduation Activities Set Friday, Saturday
Texas College’s graduation activities will be Friday and Saturday.

The event begins with the Class of 2012 Flag Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday near the Texas College flagpole. A Baccalaureate and Communion Service will follow at 6 p.m. in Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium on the campus at 2404 Grand Ave. Dr.

Jerry L. Christian Sr. will serve as the keynote speaker at the service, according to a prepared statement from the college.

A graduate dinner will follow the service at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the campus Dining Hall. Cost for that event is $10 per person and tickets can be purchased from the Texas College Office of Business and Finance. Call 903-593-8311 ext. 2200 for more information.

The 2012 Commencement Exercise will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Tyler’s Caldwell Auditorium, 300 S. College Ave. Bishop Lawrence L. Reddick III will serve as the keynote speaker.

All events are free and open to the public — except the graduate dinner — for which tickets must be purchased.

Christian is the pastor of Kirkwood Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Dallas.

A native of Booneville, Miss., Christian is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, Memphis Theological Seminary and McCormick Theological Seminary.

He also completed graduate studies at Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi. In addition, Christian is licensed as a certified counselor.

Reddick III is the 51st bishop elected in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and has been presiding bishop of the First Episcopal District since July 2010. That district includes regions in Arkansas, Tennessee and Jamaica

Born in Huntsville, Ala., Reddick is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and Duke Divinity School of Durham, N.C.

He also has received honorary degrees from the United Theological Seminary, the Bible College of Monroe, La., and Texas College.

Texas College will confer honorary degrees on both speakers.
