East Texas Boxer Develops Flu-like Symptoms, Drops Out Of Golden Gloves
MESQUITE, Nev. — Tyler’s Shamarian “Duke” Snider developed flu-like symptoms and was unable to fight in his third round bout on Thursday at the National Golden Gloves Tournament.
He was scheduled to fight Javonta Charles of Iowa. Charles wins in a walkover.
Snider’s coach Shawn Vascocu said the boxer was actually not feeling well when he defeated Shandell Winters of Chicago in his first bout late Wednesday. Snider won in a decision. He fights in the 201-pound class. Snider, who fights out of the Troup Boxing Club received a first-round bye.
“It’s unfortunate, but it looks like he is coming down with the flu,” Vascocu said.
He added Snider had to spend some time in the emergency room to receive fluids earlier on Thursday.
