Dispute Ends With Two Men In Local Hospital
Two men are recovering from injuries after a Sunday afternoon dispute led to their hospitalizations.

Tyler Police Department spokesman Don Martin said one of the men was shot in the shoulder and leg and the other was cut during an argument Sunday afternoon.

According to a news release issued by the department, Lewis Hampton, 41, allegedly threatened several people with a large knife. One of those people, whose name was not released, confronted Hampton about his actions, the release reads.
Hampton then allegedly cut the unnamed man, who shot Hampton twice, according to the release.

The argument broke out around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Brookside Villages apartment complex in the 400 block of Thigpen Road. Police are still investigating the cause of the dispute.

Martin said both men were being treated for non-life threatening injuries, and the man who shot Hampton was “treated for several knife wounds” and released from the hospital, according to the release.

Hampton’s condition was not known before press time, but the release stated he was being treated for his wounds and Martin said they were non-life threatening.

No charges had been filed in the case as of Sunday afternoon and, according to the release, authorities believe the shooter “was acting in self defense.”
