Perfection Not Required, April 29
It saddened me to read columnist Dan Thomasson’s “eulogy” of Charles Colson. To accept forgiveness for one’s sins, we must meet Christ on our own “Damascus Road” and be changed by God’s spirit.
Let’s look at other sinners. King David was an adulterer who had Bathsheba’s husband killed. A cover-up?
Rahab was a harlot and yet she is in the lineage of Jesus. The Apostle Peter denied Jesus three times.
If total perfection is required to be a Christian, then we all fail the test.
I’m no naïve youngster. I’m 79 years old and I remember Watergate. But years later, I met Mr. Colson at a Christian Booksellers convention in Dallas. He was such a gracious gentleman and very much into his ministry.
Keep in mind the Lord’s words to the repentant thief on the cross: “Today you shall be with me in Paradise.” He took his Damascus Road.
