Boys & Girls Club Builds A Splash Park
For years, the Boys & Girls Club of East Texas has done a good job providing a safe and fun environment for children.

When my boys were much younger, they were in the Club’s supervised after-school and summer-care programs. As working parents, knowing that our boys were in good hands was a blessing for me and my wife. And my kids had a blast.

With the same of goal of providing a safe and fun place for children, the Boys & Girls Club, has launched a new venture. It is building a splash park at its headquarters, 504 W. 32nd St., Tyler.

The 4,000-square-foot splash pad will be full of interactive water features. Basically that means it will have all kinds of spraying things to keep you wet and cool.

The announcement said: “The water playground will provide support to families who are looking for a place to have quality family time in a safe environment. It is BGCET’s goal to provide our community with a safe, affordable and accessible water playground for all ages.”

I bet the children in the Club as well as the 2,500 who take part each summer in its Camp in the City program can’t wait to get wet.

Camp in the City, operated in conjunction with Pine Cove, gives kids the experience of a tradition in-the-woods summer camp while remaining in the city.

If things go as planned, the splashing will commence in just a few weeks – just about the time the Texas sun gets really mean.

“We are so excited for the park to be open in early June for Camp in the City campers to be to be the first to enjoy this water playground,” says Mitch Erwin, director of Camp in the City.

The splash park will also be open to the public and be available for community rentals family events.
