2 Inmates, Jailer Hurt In Tyler Traffic Accident
(AP) -- Police say two inmates and an East Texas jailer have been slightly hurt in a two-vehicle traffic accident.
Tyler police say the crash happened Monday morning at an intersection while a Smith County Sheriff's Office car was transporting the prisoners. Police say the law enforcement vehicle was hit by a pickup truck.
Officer Don Martin says jailer Joseph Jordan and two low-risk inmates were transported to a hospital, where they were treated and released. The pickup driver, Luis Chavez-Ibarra, was not injured and has been cited for failing to yield.
A sheriff's spokesman did not immediately return a message to provide further details on where inmates Alvin Odom and Shannon Wallace were being taken. Jail records show both men are held on charges related to nonpayment of child support.
