Rare Human Decency, April 15
ROSES: On a recent Thursday, our puppy was hit by a car on Donnybrook Avenue. I personally couldn’t go down there and check on her, so my neighbors went to see what happened. What they found was an overwhelming sense of human decency that is rarely found anymore.
Cars stopped to check on our little Sadie, people got out, one lady even stayed right next to her, consoling her and petting her until my husband could get there to pick her up off the street.
The lady that hit her, we believe, even followed my husband as he carried Sadie home to get his name and see if she was going to be OK.
My heart stopped when I knew Sadie had been hit, I couldn’t bear the thought of losing such a dear friend. But now, my heart is full of admiration for the many who stopped to help in her time of need.
Sadie is a trooper, she didn’t have a single broken bone and has made a full recovery. She is lucky to be alive, and we are all lucky to live in a city where people still care.
Thank you to everyone who stopped that day, I wish I had been able to get your names to thank you personally. And to the lady whose car my dog ran out in front of, thank you for stopping; thank you for caring, I hope you read this and know that Sadie is doing great.
