FIT CITY SUCCESS: Crossfit Helps Bust Plateau
It took a picture to get a Tyler man to see he needed to lose weight. Now, Harlan Henrichson is 85 pounds lighter.
For years, Henrichson was consumed by work; never making time for himself.
"I was just go, go, go," he said.
Exercise wasn't even on his radar.
Then three years ago, while looking at photo proofs of his daughter's wedding, something clicked. He didn't want to be more than 250 pounds anymore.
"I was motivated by the pictures I saw to try to get fit," he said.
Henrichson immediately changed his diet.
"I ate a lot of fruits and vegetables, nothing processed," he said. "I don't eat anything that comes out of a box."
He also started an exercise program.
"I started riding my bicycle right away," he said. "That's about the only thing I could do at that point."
In November, after a plateau at 205 pounds, Henrichson decided to try a more intense workout at Crossfit Tyler.
"My first workout was eye-opening," he said. "I had been working out and thought I was in decent shape, but this is a whole different game."
Harlan enjoys the variety in the workouts and the challenge of the "WOD" -- or workout of the day. But most of all, he appreciates the people who motivate him.
"Everybody has welcomed me and encourages me."
Now five months later, Henrichson's down to 175 pounds and 18 percent body fat.
"I feel like I did maybe when I was 25 years old," he said.
After losing the weight, Henrichson was able to get his helicopter pilot's license and is working on getting his commercial pilot's license.
He said that would not have been possible three years ago.
