Tyler Man Receives Life Sentence
A 61-year-old Tyler man received a life sentence Wednesday in the Smith County 7th District court for his 10th driving while intoxicated conviction.
Steve Taylor Gebert will serve at least 30 years of his sentence before being eligible for parole, Smith County Assistant District Attorney Richard Vance said.

In May, Ge-bert, who was driving south on Broadway, drove in the northbound lane on Broadway into an oncoming traffic lane in front of Hogg Middle School, Vance said. The jury took eight minutes to convict Gebert, Vance said.
Although no one was injured, the jury also made an affirmative finding of the vehicle as a deadly weapon, he said.
Defense attorney O.W. Lloyd represented Gebert.
