AP: Murder Charge In Trayvon Martin Killing
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — An official with knowledge of the case tells The Associated Press that neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman is in custody in Florida and will be charged with 2nd-degree murder in the fatal shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin. The shooting has led to protests across the nation and spurred a debate about race and the laws of self-defense all the way to the White House.

This combo made from file photos shows Trayvon Martin, left, and George Zimmerman. The fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager -- Martin -- by a neighborhood watch volunteer -- Zimmerman -- led to nationwide protests calling for the shooter's arrest. Martin's parents, civil rights leaders and other people are portraying the case as racially charged, saying the Zimmerman would have been arrested had he been black and the victim white. Zimmerman told police he acted in self-defense after Martin pursued and attacked him.
