Beer And Wine Sales, April 8
I have been living out of town for the last six months so I apologize for a late response to the Feb. 19 editorial under the headline “Divisive Alcohol Sales Issue Requires Transparency.”
Why is Tyler losing large profitable businesses? Could it be the paternalistic attitude that pervades the Tyler ruling class — local banks, churches, business leaders and politicians? Prohibition of alcohol sales is just a symptom of this attitude. Who has the right to prohibit the sale of a perfectly legal product? Where else in the world does this happen except for Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries? Do we want to be like them? To even imply that the sale of beer and wine is a moral issue is absurd. Freedom is morally superior to the tyranny of even a large majority. Let freedom reign.
